Today, we’re featuring an experimental photo series from film photographer Kara Boodhansingh. Kara used the experimental technique of exposing both sides of a roll of film to create double exposures of her hometown of Philadelphia. Here is more from Kara about capturing this series…
I have loved photography for as long as I can remember and got back into film photography about three years ago. I’ve enjoyed the slower nature of shooting film and have especially enjoyed exploring experimental techniques such as multiple exposures and exposing both sides of the film, used in these images.
This set of images was shot around Philadelphia, PA. While I did not grow up here, I’ve called the area home for about 15 years and still enjoy exploring the city with my camera. When photographing an area that you have been to before, or a place that you travel to often, finding a new way to capture what’s around you can be a challenge. By utilizing experimental approaches, such as exposing both sides of the film, fresh life can be given to familiar scenes.
