Today, we are featuring portraiture that pushes the creative boundaries of film. Photographer Christy Flaherty uses double exposures, light leaks, and experimental lighting to bring out a mysterious and beautiful quality in her work. Here’s more from Christy about working with film…

Since growing up with a VHS camcorder, I’ve always loved the grainy, unpredictability of analog. Since moving to digital photography, I’ve been incorporating film more into my shoots – experimenting with double exposures, low light, and intentional light leaks. I love the way it captures light on the skin and the differences in saturation you get from each film stock. Shooting film has helped me embrace imperfections and focus more on the story and how my work feels.

Analog cameras and films used: Canon AE-1 Program (Find at KEH Camera or eBay) | Kodak Portra 400 (Find on Amazon), CineStill 800T (Find on Amazon)
