Our latest feature is a beautiful landscape series on Polaroid film by Carolina Nobile. Here is more from Carolina about the magic of Polaroid and capturing these landscapes throughout Mexico…
For the last two years, I have traveled to different places in Mexico (Tepoztlán, Teotihuacán, Puerto Escondido, and Mazunte in Oaxaca, the Popocatepetl volcano), always with my analog cameras, and I began to make a series of different landscapes with Polaroid film. The images I got with this little project turned out to have something unexpected in common: as Polaroid film is extremely unstable, I got totally random and different results for every picture. Colors, textures, everything is unique, nostalgic, broken, or to the limit of imperfection. Yet despite the total lack of control over the results, seeing these photos together gives me a sense of uniqueness that makes me love them just the way they are. That’s why I like to call this series “Paisajes Rotos” (Broken Landscapes).
