Today, we’re featuring a beautiful black and white travel series from film photographer Neil Milton. Here is more from Neil about photographing his trips to Scotland…
The first two years of the pandemic were difficult for a Scottish emigrant settled in Poland. For the decade prior, I had taken keen advantage of the low-cost flight options between Warsaw and Edinburgh or Glasgow and could visit home regularly. The 18-month period between Christmas ’19 and August ’21 was the longest I’d been away from Scotland in my life. Since the world opened up, I’ve returned home as often as time will allow, occasionally travelling up north with my partner for some quiet highland life.
With the exception of those on Loch Lomond, and one just outside Edinburgh, the photographs in this collection are taken from trips that took me north of Perth, a city affectionately known as ‘the gateway to the highlands.’

Neil, I loved your b&w photos from your travels in Scotland. I mainly shoot b&w that I develop and print myself. Most of your photos have that mood you get from overcast days and the Tri-X 400 has given good tonal range in those conditions with evidence of grain as can be expected with this film. Thank you.

Hi Ray – Thanks so much. Yeah, in Scotland, there’s certainly enough overcast days.
