Today, we’re featuring a gorgeous series from film photographer Rodrigo Tomzhinsky. Here is more from Rodrigo about returning to his hometown of Rio de Janeiro and capturing the experience on 35mm film…
Returning to my hometown after five years in Canada, Rio de Janeiro felt both familiar and foreign. Despite being a native, the sensation of being a tourist in my own city lingered. After reconnecting with family and friends, I embarked on a dawn hike with my cousin to witness the sunrise from the summit of Morro Dois Irmaos. Our journey began with a 3AM cab ride to the entrance of Favela do Vidigal, followed by a moto-taxi ascent through the favela, setting the stage for a captivating hike with breathtaking views.
Post-hike, a quick shower and nap got me ready for a chilled walk from Copacabana to Ipanema beach. Even as a local, Rio’s beauty, vivid colors, friendly folks, and awesome music never fail to mesmerize me.
Armed with my trusted Nikon L35AF point-and-shoot and just a roll each of Kodak Ektar 100 and Fujifilm Superia 400.
