Today, we’re featuring a beautiful fine art series from film photographer J. M. Golding. Here is more from J. M. about the series Where You Are, and you can find the zine of the entire series on J. M.’s website…
These photographs use double exposure to explore the possibilities of being close while being far away. I used two different cameras for most of the work, focusing one exposure close and the other at infinity. In this way the process itself brought together closeness and infinite distance on each frame of film. I made the second exposure on each frame without conscious memory of the first, allowing room for expression of internal experiences that might have been beyond awareness. The resulting imagery holds the seeming contradiction between closeness and distance, at times evoking its longing and magic, its ambiguity and certainty, its ordinariness and impossibility.
Analog cameras and films used: Mamiyaflex C2 (Find at KEH Camera or on eBay), Holga 120N (Find on Amazon) | Kodak Plus-X (Find on eBay), Fuji Acros (Find on Amazon)
