Saudade | A Brazil Travel Story
By Andrew Hutchinson
The second page wrote:
We found ourselves with a blank canvas
and a desire to experience the full sensory symphony that Brazil breathes.

Iguaçu Falls: the holy grail of waterfalls — roaring with immense panoramic power. Every lookout greeted us with a standstill “woaaah”

With nowhere to go and nowhere to be
we floated up the coast
in search of white sands
and salted skin.
As we gazed….
inspiration outlined the sketchbook
inspiration shot into a frozen analog – laminated in grit & grain.

The thought of “this is it” ran profoundly through my psyche
while our feet sank into the sand,
an açaí in one hand
and a coconut in the other.
Everything we do that we don’t really want to do
so that one day we can be free & enjoy the moment
was here, right now, and then.
Surrounded by deep greenery, unique imagery and a rhythm that will illuminate me every time I imagine these floating fragments swirling within my minds memory
The serendipity of a regretful hostel booking paved the path to meet a tranquilo man who presented us with the fruit of the gods as a gift & coincidentally, the haircut to match….
which led to a domino effect for one of the most memorable days of my life thus far:
laying & laughing along the shores of a tropical private beach.
The sun beamed on our skin as color scratched the page,
and the flesh of a mango stained my moustache.

As my eyes closed, her aura waved to me,
the hopeful realization that the genius was in her hands rang true.

The cobblestone streets were a kaleidoscope of colors
corresponding beyond every turn.
A circus of sounds echoed through its alleyways.
We stopped, sat, watched, and listened —
wondered and sondered.

The blues were rocking,
swaying with swagger
through the frame that froze us in our search for nothing.

Portraits were portrayed,
The art on the walls imitated life that was unfolding organically in front of our eyes
We laughed in a different language that night 🙂

We arrived in the City of Gods.
As I sat on Copacabana Beach — watching the flow of futvolley, listening to the sounds of thousands whom’s skin had been freshly baked, smelling the smells of dope & grilled meats — my soul soaked in the energetic ambience as the tangerine sun sunk into the drink.
A feeling of accomplishment swam through me: “I finally made it here”

“Christ is risen”
“Truly, He is risen”
A morning played in prayer & peace,
followed by bossa nova beats.
Her hips moved soulfully,
her heart rhythmic,
a smile that stretched beyond
all to the sequence of the drum
It was timeless.
As I look at the past from the present,
we had everything, apart from only one courageous heart to piece it all together…

Saudade shadowed our warm embrace
as our final moment collapsed.
Where are we now?
Por favor, não se esqueça: sua mente é o seu superpoder ♡
