Today, we’re featuring a beautiful travel story from film photographer Seda Tekemen. Here is more from Seda about visiting Lake Salda and Cotton Castle in Turkey…
I am a film photographer based in Istanbul, and this is my travel story. I’ve been looking forward to this exciting journey, visiting a magical place with my favorite film stock, Kodak Ektar 100. I traveled to Cotton Castle and Salda Lake this summer to take the best photos on these broiling hot days.
I’ve been taking film photos for more than three years, and the most satisfying thing for me is taking contrasty, saturated, and bright summer landscapes. It reveals my best works and makes me feel peaceful!
When I went there, I was completely in love with the Cotton Castle. The view really inspired me and gave the opportunity discover Ektar for a second time. I always use my films for a particular location, and since Ektar 100 is a perfect landscape film stock, I already decided to use it there. No regrets, it could not have worked better!
I am one soul with my camera, even though it sounds too romantic! And when I saw these beautiful scenes, I was amazed. I felt so alive. I believe my camera (Canon AE-1) felt it too. 🙂
Now I have an unforgettable memories, experiences, and the photos that remind me of all these beautiful things, and I would like to share it! The quite peaceful Lake Salda and the mountains on the road I stared at them from my window, mixed with the peace I feel when I shoot Ektar, it gave me the courage to do it more.
Ektar is a colorful film which reflects a cheerful summer memory! It can give you the best summer colors and has some harsh shadows and very fine grain. Just a note: always overexpose Ektar or deal with the mud, because it really looks muddy when you underexpose it.
