Professional Dreamer
/prəˈfɛʃənl ˈdriːmər/ noun
Someone who keeps believing, reaching for the impossible even when the world makes them feel foolish for trying.

Professional Dreamer is a black and white photographic series exploring what it means to continue dreaming in a world that teaches people to be ashamed of hope. The project follows individuals, each existing within their own isolated emotional landscape. They move separately through abandoned buildings, overgrown spaces, empty streets, and environments marked by decay and survival. The absence of color creates a world that feels suspended between dream and time, showing that there have always been dreamers and there always will be.
Though each person appears alone, together they form a collective series of people who have been dismissed as unrealistic, naïve, or unsuccessful simply because they still believe their lives can become something more in a world that is dark.

Each figure embodies a different version of the dreamer. Part angel, part exhausted human, they carry wings that symbolize the very thing society often mocks most: hope. The wings are not presented as symbols of divinity, but as the evidence of vulnerability. They represent the painful decision to continue imagining in a world that constantly demands realism and fear.
Throughout the series, the subjects attempt to “fly.” Not gracefully but honestly. They fall. They hesitate. They become frustrated. Some laugh at themselves. Some appear exhausted by their own persistence. Yet they continue trying. The audience never fully witnesses success because this work is not concerned with mastery. It is concerned with endurance. With the emotional courage required to keep reaching after disappointment has already taught you how painful hope can be.
At its core, Professional Dreamer is for anyone who has ever been made to feel unrealistic for wanting more from life and chose to keep believing anyway. It is about the quiet rebellion of remaining hopeful in a culture that rewards detachment. It is about surviving failure without surrendering softness. Most importantly, it is about the deeply human act of continuing to reach for something, even when there is no guarantee you will ever touch it.
