Spring Light in Ireland

By Enes Ozbayoglu

Spring arrived quietly that year—soft rain in the mornings, shy sunlight in the afternoons, and the first hints of color returning to the Irish landscape. I carried my Nikon FM3A everywhere, its weight familiar in my hands, loaded with Kodak Ektar 100, a film perfectly suited for days like these.

Ektar embraces shadows gently while celebrating color boldly. It captures spring as the heart feels it—fresh greens, warm earth tones, the shy pink of blossoms awakening after winter. Unlike other films that soften the world, Ektar uplifts it. In Ireland, where light shifts from silver to gold in moments, it becomes an essential companion.

One Saturday morning, I found myself on the Hill of Tara. The grass was impossibly green—almost glowing—and the air carried the scent of rain from the night before. I took slow steps, listening to the wind weave over the mounds, the FM3A poised for that perfect moment when the sun illuminated the clouds.

Later that week, I drove to Malahide Beach. Spring had transformed the sea into soft blues, and families strolled with their dogs along the sand, embodying the relaxed joy of warmth returning. The light was gentle yet bright, the kind that Ektar adores—clean, crisp, full of life. I photographed the shoreline, the whispering waves, footprints stretching toward the horizon.

Shooting Ektar in the spring feels like inhaling deeply. The colors are not loud; they are simply honest. Ireland in this season reveals itself as a place where time slows down, where the Nikon’s shutter resonates with a small affirmation: yes, this moment is worth preserving.

As the days lengthened, I filled my canister with moments—Tara’s verdant slopes, Malahide’s serene coast, blossoms in Dublin parks, warm light slipping between clouds. In the gentle palette of Ektar 100, spring in Ireland transformed into exactly what it should be: calm, hopeful, beautifully alive.
