Thailand Travel Story
A Photo Essay by Stefano Degirmenci

It was the beginning of summer, and it was one of those days where you drag your work until late at night.
I was working on my laptop, surrounded by papers and unanswered emails. Several YouTube travel videos were running in the background and keeping me company while I was having the 100th mental breakdown.

Within one task and the other, I was finding myself so vividly imagining walking among the busy night markets of the Asian cities they were narrating in the Youtube Videos.
I could just so see myself with a cup of freshly cut pineapple in one hand (my favorite fruit!) and my film camera in the other.

All these travel stories and wonderful places I was seeing on the screen were starting to feel so irresistible and necessary.
Everybody in these videos was saying, “Just book your flight to Bangkok. Don’t plan anything. Let every experience dictate the next place you’ll visit once you are there.”
I have to treat myself, I have been working nonstop for months now. I de-ser-ve a vacation! I thought.

Little did I know is that a few minutes later the “Bangkok plane ticket” was sitting in my cart of the Thai Airways website. I’m an obnoxious overthinker and I second guess most of the things I do. But that flight ticket just seemed so right.
So I pulled the trigger and booked my trip. I made sure I could have just enough time to finish all the summer hustle, deliver all the projects that I was working on, and pack all my stuff before leaving to travel Southeast Asia.

These are some of my favorites film photographs that I’ve taken in my first few days in Thailand.
What do you think? Have you ever been to Thailand?
