Today, we’re featuring a beautiful photo series from film photographer Ash Oakley. Here is more from Ash about documenting the Sisters of St. Joseph and the town of Concordia, Kansas in the series Cloud County…
This series of photos is from my Kansas project titled Cloud County. Cloud County centers on the Sisters of St. Joseph. They’re the primary subject, but Concordia itself plays an integral role. The narrative’s core lies in the relationship between the two. This project focuses on the notion of home, the resilience of sisterhood, and the aftermath of what happens when the pillars of a community are no longer.
This project has been at the heart of my work since 2017- the time I’ve spent in Kansas living with the Sisters and working on documenting them/Concordia has been truly special. I plan on continuing my documentation and publishing a photobook in the future.
