Today, we’re featuring a set of powerful and moving images from film photographer Henry J Keith III. Henry captured the Los Angeles Black Lives Matter protest on 35mm black and white film. Here is more from Henry about his experience documenting the protests…
My name is Henry J Keith III, and I’m a photographer based in Los Angeles. As a photographer and further more a black artist, I feel a major responsibility to document the times. In light of recent protest in Los Angeles and worldwide, I set out with my camera to record.
In terms of utilizing the medium of film, for me it’s all about the process, being very selective with compositions, developing, and making prints in the darkroom.
In addition, most of what I know about history has been photographed on film. Continuing in the same tradition only seems right.
Analog cameras and films used: Canon EOS1N | Kodak Tri-X 400 | Developed and scanned at home
