Today, we’re featuring a New York City photo series from film photographer Charlotte Silverman. Here is more from Charlotte about photographing NYC…
I work for the city of New York at the Sanitation Department and live in Manhattan. I shoot film when I am walking to and from places, using the buildings, people, and streets to make my photos come alive. I love living this way because it allows me to see the world and New York from a creative lens, where everything I see is potential art.
I love these photos because they show a wide range of the city. Some of these photos were taken near my apartment, while others were taken in fun places like Coney Island. My favorite photo showing a cat walking on the sidewalk over a puddle in Brooklyn. I am proud of this photo because it captures my skills and luck as a photographer, ability to frame a photo, and my ability to quickly pull my camera out for the perfect moment (if I’m lucky enough).
Analog cameras and films used: Pentax PZ-70 (Find on eBay) | FujiFilm 400 (Find on Amazon) and various other film stocks
