Today, we’re featuring a beautiful Greece travel story from film photographer Paulina Walsh. Here is more from Paulina about capturing Santorini on film…
As a film wedding photographer, my journey with photography has been deeply rooted in the timeless beauty of film. Growing up, I was always accompanied by a film camera, as that was the technology available at the time. My early work was primarily with medium format cameras, which offered rich detail and a unique aesthetic. However, when digital became available, I stepped away from film for a few years, only returning to it in 2018, when I embraced 35mm film as my preferred format to work with.
I had the incredible opportunity to visit Santorini after Covid restrictions were lifted. The island was surprisingly quiet and peaceful, offering a rare moment of tranquility. This serene environment allowed me to capture breathtaking images without distractions, truly connecting with the landscape and light. I shot these images on my Nikon F100 using Kodak Portra 400 and Gold 200 films, which beautifully rendered the colors and textures of Santorini’s iconic sunsets, whitewashed buildings, and deep blue waters.
Santorini, with its striking cliffs, charming villages, and stunning sunsets, remains a place of inspiration for many artists and photographers like myself. Visiting it in such a peaceful moment allowed me to deepen my appreciation for the island’s natural beauty and the timeless quality that film photography brings to my work.
