Today, we’re featuring a beautiful travel series from film photographer Roberta Hulanská of her time visiting the Indonesian islands of Bali and Nusa Penida. Here is more from Roberta about her journey with film photography and her love of Indonesia…
When I was around 12, I got my first digital camera and spent several years taking pictures with it. Around the age of 18, I felt very uninspired. My pictures did not look that interesting to me anymore. Luckily, I happened to receive an old film camera from my aunt who shared my passion for taking photos. After my first film roll was developed, I was very surprised that the photos turned out so well, so I have been shooting film ever since.
This particular set of photos is from my fourth and fifth roll of film. We visited Indonesian islands Bali and Nusa Penida in 2017, and they will always remain one of my all-time favorite destinations. Indonesia is very beautiful and diverse country. You are on the beach at one point and after a little while you can find yourself in a rainforest or a rice field. What I enjoyed the most was to shoot in places where I felt a mixture of peace, energy, and culture. I tried to achieve photos that will radiate peace, but also tell a story.
