Our second module for Shoot It With Film Insiders was all about developing your own black and white film at home.
Armed with video lessons, demonstrations, and a place to get answers to all their questions, it was so amazing to see our members step out of their comfort zone and learn to develop their own film.
And they are seeing so many benefits from developing their own film! You can read a bit more about their experiences below and how developing their own film has given them more creative freedom to experiment and given them a deeper understanding of the photography process. (And it even saves you money!)
Here are a few highlights of the b&w images our members created and developed themselves!

From Jess: I have rediscovered my love for home developing (a goal of mine this year) thanks to SIWF Insiders! Some of my favourite images (ever!) have been made, processed, AND scanned all my myself in the last couple of months, and my creative spirit has come raging back.
Find Jess at @jesskosphoto and jessicakosmackphotography.com.

From Ron: It’s been so rewarding developing film at home. The magic of unwinding the reel and seeing the freshly processed images I captured is awesome.
Find Ron at @myeyesmypolaroid.

From Flavia: The module pushed me to try other developers and find the one I like. I went from CineStill’s df96 Monobath (super convenient), to Ilfosol-3 (fine and easy), to Kodak D76 (my favorite!), and I also refined my caffenol technique. Also, I can’t get over how much I love black and white in film.

From Taylor: I hadn’t developed my own negatives in 2 years, so this was a great challenge to get me back into it. I also made this print in the darkroom (which I also hadn’t done in 2 years).
I took this photo on a community “photo walk” in Charlotte. It was the first time I’d done a photo walk, and the first time taking photos of models on film.
