Today, we’re featuring a Cuba travel story from film photographer Nuno Murjal. Here is more from Nuno about capturing Cuba on film…
For the summer of 2024, amongst the variety of possible destinations to travel to, we chose to visit Cuba with the rush feeling that the island may no longer exist in the same way in the near future. Packed with my workhorse Canon FTQL and a bunch of Porta 400, Gold 200, and Vision 250D, we explored that Cold War time capsule full of ancient colonial buildings and old American cars baking under the Caribbean sun. One thing that struck me is that Cubans really are passionate about their cars.
Travelling to Cuba in the summer means high temperatures, high humidity, but also a chance of rain storms. Cuban weather is as warm and vibrant as its people. It may be a brick, but I felt my 70’s camera really blended well in that atmosphere, with all those old cars. If it works, don’t change it, I guess.
