Today, we’re featuring a wonderful collection of images from film photographer Sandy Connell. Sandy’s HOLIDAYS project is an ongoing series in which he captures moments from his trips to the coast. Here is more from Sandy about the HOLIDAYS photo series…
Holidays promise the conflicting attractions of getting to spend time with new people and of experiencing an oddly comfortable, innocent detachment from the rest of the world. On holidays, it is a quick and perfectly natural switch to turn from a conversation with a friendly stranger to scrutinize another stranger across the way.
While shooting, I project so much of myself onto my subjects, living and non-living alike. HOLIDAYS is an on-going series of escapes to the sea, in which I project my own wandering thoughts and stories onto the glimmering surfaces under the sun and my fellow holiday makers. As photographer and, later, editor, I rewrite these real life holidays under the gaze of my mood, my sensibility, while strangers and travelling companions are caught in a moment outside of their daily lives.
