Today, we’re featuring a beautiful series from film photographer Alex Warren. While visiting her Aunty Mary’s home in England, Alex documented Mary’s life by capturing and bringing to life the details in Mary’s home. Here is more from Alex about this series…
Visiting my Aunty Mary in Taunton, South West England is always a joy. She’s 82, and still retains a fierce sense of independence, good humor, and energy. She is a keen cook, so feeds us very well whenever we visit. Her light and airy ground-floor flat shows the signs of a life well-lived, everywhere you look there are signs of friendship and family and hobbies, which include reading and music.
I have been shooting film for just over a year, and using my camera to observe and capture the little details of life makes me very, very happy.
Analog cameras and films used: Pentax 645N (Find at KEH Camera or on eBay), Leica M6 (Find at KEH Camera or on eBay) | Kodak Portra 400 (Find on Amazon), Ilford HP5 (Find on Amazon)

Thank you for the great inspiration! I think I’ll try something like this with my grandmother’s home. I’m in the process of going back to film after 20 years of digital photography. Projects like this bring me back to why I got interested in photography to begin with. There was just something really special about shooting film, especially medium format. Looking forward to diving back in to film and shooting just for the fun of it.
