Today, we’re featuring a lovely Italy travel series from Kort Maeda captured on 35mm film. Here is more from Kort about her time in Italy…
For a little over a month, I brought my sketchbook and trusty camera along with me as I traveled throughout Italy. As I experienced cities for the first time, I developed and gained a new appreciation for moving slowly through places, taking note of my observations between each train, bus, and plane ride. These moments, captured on film, extend across neighborhoods in Rome, Milan, Florence, Venice, and Pisa.
Across each of these cities, while distinct in architecture, history, and artistic scene, there was a certain warmness and lively energy that could be felt in every interaction. I found myself fascinated by the role of the built environment in responding to the growing and changing needs of a city. This series explores and highlights how the perceived permanence of architecture influences how people interact with their surroundings and in turn, one another.
