Today, we’re featuring a beautiful series from film photographer Marissa Wu that she photographed during last year’s quarantine. Marissa was living with a host family in France as their “jeune fille au pair” and traveled with them to their country cottage during the lockdown. Here is more from Marissa about capturing those memories on film…
Now that restrictions are beginning to lift, I want to remember this bizarre and precious time. In my haste to pack on a 24-hour notice, I grabbed a handful of film and not nearly enough clothes to last 90 days in the countryside. Somehow…we made it. Those three months are seared into my memory, from the bone-chilling early spring in a stone cottage to the abundance of sunshine on the cusp of summer. We chased butterflies, went for village walks, greeted the cows, and swung in the hammock, amongst other things (including many, many rounds of croquet and pétanque). In these photographs, I want to remember the fear, the dread, the uncertainty, the joy, the adventure, and the delight.
